Unix Time refers to the number of seconds that have elapsed since midnight on Thursday, January 1, 1970, coordinated universal time.

Stay counting.

 

Unix time is used in programming to evaluate an order of events. It is not a standard for time like a 12-hour or a 24-hour clock.

Its only concerns are for which events happened first, and how many seconds passed in-between events. 

Seconds being the only timescale humans have an understanding of.

Imagine a conception of time that does not offer the myth of understanding a specific moment

One that does not attempt to synchronize individuals, but rather lets events happen in their own duration

 

If we adopted it now, we would have to rewrite the books to show time-ranges

Would we not have an understanding of history more accepting of ambiguities?

 

At 6:28 AM and 16 seconds, coordinated universal time, on Thursday, February 7, 2036, Unix time will reach the programmatic limits of a 32-bit number. 

At this moment (Unix time: 2 billion, 147 million, 483 thousand, 647), Unix time will reset into the next Unix Epoch.

 

If I never know when it is 5 o’clock, I never have to stop working.
